Destination: Fredericksburg, TX
WHERE TO STAY
For most travel destinations, hotels would be the ideal choice but Fredericksburg is a city surrounded by beautiful homes inspired by German architecture due to its deep roots from immigrants in the early 18th century, because of this staying at a hotel would be unfair. Most homes are not far from the main shopping/dining area and this is where most Airbnbs are located. Now is the time to open up your Airbnb app and search for the home that best fits the dates you are planning to visit and since you will find a lot of options I suggest narrowing it down to your top four and going from there.
Now the fun begins…below we’ll highlight some of the best parts of this getaway.
WALKING MAIN STREET

This is where most of all the shopping and dining experiences are, walking this street is essential to get the whole experience of this city. Live music can be heard as you’re walking and just ahead you’ll find unique places full of history and German influence from early settlers.
One of the best things to shop for is antiques, this city is widely known for it but many boutique shops give you an array of colors and styles that will set your outfits apart from the usual. One of the best parts about walking through all these shops is the several places that offered alcoholic drinks to go which is where we’ll be heading next.

But before we do! Let’s talk about the sites that tell us stories in history!
Explore the History/ Visit a Museum

One of the many experiences you’ll get to know about and see are the many artifacts from pioneers in Fredericksburg to seeing the National Museum of the Pacific War; a wonderful adventure for families and fellow history buffs. In the Marktplatz or Market Square, you can even find a hidden museum inside and beautiful gardens surrounding it.
VISIT A WINERY

Most wineries can be found alongside shops on Main Street but there are also those minutes away that can be found with much larger operations. Pictured above is a winery we found on Main Street providing tourists with chilled wines, sangria, and a well-stocked wall with local wine bottles and craft beers brewed in Texas.
& Vineyard

Finding a vineyard where they both grow and produce their own wine on site is not a difficulty; though most grapes are grown in the Texas High Plains you will find that there are many vineyards like the one pictured above that do both, therefore, giving the wine tour that much more of an experience. Most vineyards will offer tastings but to truly get the most out of your visit I always suggest taking a tour and seeing for yourself the process of it all.
Tip: Before visiting a vineyard always look at their website to see if reservations are needed for tours and or tastings.
TRYING THE LOCAL CUISINE

Germain cuisine is the specialty here, keep this in mind when looking for a restaurant. Amongst the many options we found ranging from small homely restaurants to modernized restaurants, we begged to try them all. One of the best for me was at Alstadt Brewery where we tried the chef’s selection of sausage served with mustard cream sauce and German sauerkraut. This restaurant located inside a brewery was a shared dinner with friends all enjoying beers brewed right on the property.
The exploring doesn’t end here, the rest is for you to find by getting out there!
Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever traveled here, I’d love to know your experience!
